Three persons were arrested over two different rape cases in two upazilas of Moulvibazar on Saturday night and early Monday.
In Kamalganj Upazila, prime accused was arrested over the rape of a class four student in Kamalganj Upazila of Moulvibazar early Monday. Police arrested him from Doarabazar area in Doarabazar Upazila Upazila in Sunamganj district.
He is identified as Ruson Mia, 32, son of late Kholil Mia in Vanubeel village in Kamalganj Upazila.
According to the prosecution, a fourth grader was allegedly raped by a man on Sunday ( Dec 30} in Kamalganj Upazila.
The father of the 10-year-old victim on Wednesday (2nd January) filed a case against the accused with Kamalganj Police Station due to a delay in village arbitration . Victim’s father said , his daughter was studying alone at home on Sunday evening, when Ruson Mia, 32, a local hen trader in the area, went inside and raped her.
When neighbors came running to help after hearing her screams, Ruson allegedly ran away.
The father added that “influential locals and elders” told him not to talk to journalists about the incident or take the victim to hospital as they would “solve the matter through arbitration”.
He demanded highest penalty for the culprit. Kamalganj OC Arifur Rahman said, we arrested key accused in the case.
In Juri Upazila, two people have been arrested over the gang -rape of mentally disable woman in Juri Upazila on Saturday night.
The arrestees are identified as CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Masuk Mia, 30 and local trader Fozlu Mia in Ranimura area in Juri Upazila. According to the victim’s family, 22-year-old mentally challenged woman was allegedly gang-raped in Moluvibazar by three men on Thursday night.
The woman was picked up by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver and taken to an abandoned house when she was returning home from a nearby market Wednesday afternoon, the victim’s father said quoting her.
The auto-rickshaw driver called his two cohorts and raped the woman throughout the night, he added.
Locals found her unconscious in the abandoned house and admitted her to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital the next evening, he said. The woman started crying when she regained consciousness. She then described the incident, he added.
The victim’s father said he filed a case with the local police station on Friday.
Victim’s father said, our daughters are not safe anywhere. Government laws in place cannot keep these incidents form happening. There is a culture of impunity existing.
Zahangir Hosain Sarder, officer-in-charge of Juri Police Station, said we arrested two and added that they were trying to capture the other suspect incriminated in the case.
Faruk Mahmud Chowdhury, President , Susasoner Jonno Nagorik, Sylhet chapter said, I heard about the incident. Since we could not get the medical report, we could not come to any conclusion about the rape.
However, such an incident is not acceptable. The culprits must be punished. None of guilty will be spared, he added.
