3 drug traders were arrested along with 45 kgs ganja from a truck on Khulna-Bagerhat Highway in the Saitgumbaj area under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district by a contingent of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) of Khulna on Friday morning. The arrested are Md. Bikram Shaikh alias Biplob (55), son of one Khalil Shaikh from Pubo Chalitakhali in Pirojpur district, Md. Kader Shaikh (35), son of one Mojaher Shaikh from village Chandpai under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district and truck driver Md. Mukul Morol (50), son of one Shamsul Haq from village Noapara under Ashashuni Upazila in Satkhira district. In this connection a case was lodged with Bagerhat Sadar Model PS against them.
It was disclosed through a press release issued by Md. Mahbubul Alam, Assistant Director (Legal and Media) of RAB-6, Khulna on Friday afternoon. It is stated in the press release that acting on secret information that drug is being smuggled from one place to another through motor vehicles plying on Khulna-Bagerhat Highway the RAB set up a check post in the Saitgumbaj area in morning.
At one stage when the RAB signalled a truck (Dhaka Metro-Ta-13-6861) that was going from Khulna to Pirojpur to stop. But the truck did not comply with signal and tried to flee away. Then the RAB chased and seized the same. After searching the truck the RAB recovered a huge quantity of ganja in three gunny bags containing various articles and later the seized truck along with recovered ganja and arrested drug traders were handed over to the local PS for taking legal action against them.
Another report states that a young man named Ruhul Amin (25) was arrested along with two hundred grams of ganja from Babuganj area under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district by the police of Chitalmari PS on Thursday night. The arrested young man is the son of one late Ayub Ali of village Shantikhali within Hijla Union under the Upazila.
Mir Shariful Haq, Officer-in-charge of Chitalmari PS told, acting on secret information police raided Babuganj area at the night in order to make free Chjitalmari Upazila from drug and arrested drug trader Ruhul Amin along with ganja. Later he was sent to the jail hajat through the court.
