Special VGF for Eid: 3.90 lakh poor get 20-kg rice each in Nilphamari

For celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr festival, record quantity of 3,894 metric tons (MT) rice was distributed among poor and distressed people in the district under special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme from 5 July-7 July period.
The Government through Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief allocated the huge quantity rice which was distributed among 3,89,414 poor and distressed beneficiaries as aid in all 60 unions and four municipalities under six upazilas of the district.
As per directive and supervision of district administration, concerned upazila administration with assistance of VGF rice distribution committees in each union comprising of elected local body leaders and representation of different cross section of people prepared lists of the stakeholders in a fair manner.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Tajul Islam said, disbursement of VGF rice distribution completed before eid day so that the beneficiaries could celebrate eid-ul-fitr in joyous situation as the holy festival was held on 8 July.
” Each of the card holders got 20 kg rice under the special VGF which is double the quantity of 10 kg rice in previous year,” he added.
Under the programme, 872 MT of rice was distributed among 87,229 poor cardholder beneficiaries in sador upazila, 517 MT rice among 51,652 beneficiaries in Domar, 646 MT among 64,624 beneficiaries in Dimla upazila.
Among the rest three upazilas, 544 MT rice distributed among 54,389 beneficiaries in Kishorganj upazila, 750 MT among 75,023 beneficiaries in Jaldhaka and 426 MTs among 42,634 beneficiaries in Saidpur upazila.
Rice also distributed in 4 municipalities like Nilphamari, Saidpur, Jaldhaka and Domar.
Accordingly, 46 MTs of rice were distributed among 4621 beneficiaries in Nilphamari municipality, 46 MTs among 46,210 beneficiaries in Saidpur municipality, 31 MTs among 3081 beneficiaries in Jaldhaka municipality and 15 MTs among 1540 beneficiaries in Domar municipality.
Poor beneficiaries like Rasetullah Mamud of sador upazila, Maneka Begum in Dimla upazila, Kamona Rani in Jaldhaka upazila expressed happiness and thanked the present govt. for giving 20 kg rice against each of them.
We faced no problem in celebrating eid, as kept fifty percent rice for family consumption and sold the rest for buying other essential commodities, they further told with bright signs of happiness on faces.
