Rural Electrification Board (REB) brought 3.5 lakh families under electricity connections in the month of May. The number of total consumers is now over 1.17 crore under 72 samities of REB across the country, the REB sources said.
REB has also given electricity connection to around
2.46 lakh families in the month of April. Besides, REB chairman has given direction for electricity connection against all the pending applications with this month.
REB plans to cover all the rural people under electricity facilities by 2021. In this regard, REB will build 1107 power sub-stations, set up 1.30 lakh kilometers new distribution lines and 54 lakh pre-paid electricity meters in this time.
REB provides connection among 3000 martyred and intellectual families. They are consuming 200 units of electricity each month freely.
The REB also provides connection to 15000 religious institutions. Each of those institutions is consuming 100 units of electricity freely. Forty thousand families were brought under power connection in 536 shelter projects. REB has set up 40 solar irrigation pumps and 15,250 solar home systems in last two years. In 15 upazilas, 30 kilowatt capacity solar panel was set up.
