3.3kg gold seized at HSIA: 2 held

Customs Intelligence officials in separate drives seized at least 3.3 kilograms gold worth around Tk two crore in the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the early hours of Tuesday. They also detained two persons in this connection.
The arrested persons were identified as Mahmuda Hossain, 26, and Md Nurullah Nur, 45, the
both arrived at the airport by a Kuala Lumpur flight.
Customs Intelligence Assistant Director Umme Nahida Akhter said that a team of customs officials conducted a drive at the Green Channel area of the airport and interpreted Mahmuda for her suspicious movement. The raided Muhmuda’s body and found four gold bars weighing 2.44kg. The gold were found at Mahmuda’s shoes.
The seized gold bars are worth Tk 1.22 crore, the customs official said.
In the meantime, another team detained Nurullah with eight gold bars weighing 900gm worth around Tk 45 lakh,” she added.
Meanwhile, another team of customs officials seized huge abandoned smart phone sets worth around Tk 10 lakh at HSIA in the morning. The phone sets were sent by a Bangladeshi born US-citizen, sources said.
