2,900 blankets distributed among cold-hit people

 A total of 2,000 cold-stricken distressed people in Char Alatali and Char Narayanpur Union Parishads under Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district received blankets yesterday.
Agriculture Sustainable and Socio Economic Development (ASSEDO) under its “Nodi O Jiban Project-2” sponsored the warm clothes for the distressed and marginalised community to lessen their sufferings to some extent.

supplemented the endeavor initiated by corporate social responsibility
programme of Bangladesh Bank. Main thrust of the five-year Nodi O Jiban programme is to ensure food security of the extreme poor community through involving them in diversified productive and income generating activities.
Under the scheme, the 3144-targeted families were also given seeds of
different crops including wheat, black grams, maize, groundnut and potato,145 goats and 12 sewing machines to recoup their losses caused by the devastated floods in last monsoon.
UP Chairmen Khowaz Uddin and Alamgir Kabir, Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer Azim Uddin, Project Manager Nurul Islam, Economic Empowerment Facilitator Maimur Hossain and Superviser Rakibul Islam were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, they called for uplifting livelihood condition of the vulnerable char people in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts.
They said around 30,000 families live in the riverbeds of the Padma under the two districts and they are deprived of most of the fundamental rights including education, health and sanitation.
The cold weather made their overall livelihood condition marooned as they are facing more cold bite than that of the mainland.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Rangpur Unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) distributed 700 blankets among 350 cold-hit poor and distressed families and physically challenged people here on Friday.
In separate distribution ceremonies, 350 blankets were distributed among 175 cold-hit distressed families and physically challenged people in the city and 350 blankets among 175 poor families of Mirjapur and Imadpur unions under Mithapukur upazila.
Each of the selected cold-stricken distressed families and physically challenged persons got two blankets under the programme, BDRCS officials said.
Rangpur Unit Secretary of BDRCS Shah Mohammad Nabi Ullah Panna presided over the blanket distribution ceremonies arranged at Rangpur Collectorate School & College in the city and Boirati College premises under Mithapukur upazila.
Another reports adds: Rangpur unit of the Engineers’ Institution Bangladesh (IEB) distributed blankets among the cold-hit poor and distressed people in the city today to mitigate their sufferings.
The blankets were distributed among 200 cold-hit people of all ages at separate ceremonies arranged at Zannatbag Hafizia Madrasa in Bakultola, Medical Purbo gate and Chileerjhar areas in the city.
