11th National Parliamentary election: 29 MP candidates lost deposit in 5 constituencies in Chandpur

Four BNP defeated candidates among 29 defeated MP candidates of various political parties have lost their deposited money as they have not bagged the requisite number of casting votes (1/8 casting votes) as per rule of Election Commission. In all the five constituencies of the district, except one BNP candidate of Chandpur-4 ( Faridganj) Constituency Harun -or- Rashid, all other 4 BNP defeated candidates have lost their deposited money.
Contacted, this was confirmed by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Mohammad Abdullah Al- Mahmud Jaman. The same views were echoed by Assistant Returning Officer and UNO Matlab Uttar Upazila Shermin Akter and Assistant Returning Officer and Matlab Dakhshin Upazila UNO Md Shahidul Islam and all other Assistant Returning officers.
A total of 35 candidates of AL, BNP, JP, Gono Forum, Independent, BSD, JSD, Jaker Party, NAP, Islamic Oikya Front, Islami Front, Islami Andolon Bangladesh ( Char Monai Pir) and a few other parties contested in five seats in the just- concluded 11th National poll on 30 December.
Of them , five candidates of the ruling party have emerged winners polling highest gap of votes defeating their rival BNP candidates with a very big margin of votes in all five seats in the district. Consequently, as many as four BNP candidates among 29 opposition parties’ candidates have lost their deposited money for want of getting minimum number of casting votes(1/8 casting votes) of the winners.
