29 Anthrax patients identified in S’ganj

About 29 people have been infected primarily with Anthrax at Ullapara Upazila in Sirajganj district, according to the local health complex.
On information, a medical team of Ullapara Upazila Health Complex went to Charnandigati village on Wednesday morning and primarily detected 20 persons infected with the anthrax, Thana Health Officer Sukumar Sur Roy told the media.
The infected people have been identified as Pakhi (10), Shakil (15), Habib (17), Shamsul Alam (35), Manik (30), Ruhul Ameen (18), Majibur Rahman (28), Shah Alam (26), Aymala Khatun (23), Golam Mostafa (20), Choyon Islam (14), Saiful Islam (25), Harun (8), Abdur Rahman (42), Sohel Rana (14), Dulal Hossain (40), Sarwar Hossain (14), Anser Ali (9), Al Amin (11), Abdul Barek (14), Jahangir Hossain (17), Khushi Khatun (41), Antora Begum (5), Ayub Ali (39), Shanti (13), Rabeya (50), Rabiul Islam (55), Abdul Malek (60) and Rehana Khatun (22).
The villagers were infected after processing of the meat of a sick cow and a goat. They were infected in
 cutting and sharing the meat.
All of them have been suffering from sore in the hands and legs, said District Livestock Officer (DLO) Dr Morshedul Alam.
Dr Belayet Hossain, Shahzadpur Upazila Health Administrator told The New Nation that at least five affected persons were admitted in Shahzadpur Upazila Health Complex.  
All the 20 people who came in contact with the meat got infected with skin problems; Sukumar Roy said quoting the villagers. Primarily, the disease has been diagnosed as anthrax, he added.
The DLO told the journalists that at least 2,000 cattle heads have so far been vaccinated. Several teams of physicians were working to combat the disease. The medical team has already informed the matter to the higher authorities and a specialised team from Dhaka is expected to visit the village shortly, he added.
