287 households get power link in Rajshahi villages

Some 287 more households including three charitable organizations get new power connections in ten villages under Bagha Upazila of the district yesterday.
For the purpose, local office of Rural Electrification Board (REB) installed three kilometers of power distribution line and seven transformers at a cost of Taka 30 lakh.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, inaugurated the power supply schemes at Chandragati village under Bajubagha Union Parishad yesterday afternoon as chief guest.
Addressing a public meeting on the occasion, State Minister Shahriar Alam said power supply is indispensable and there is no alternative of it for elevating the living and livelihood condition of the peoples in general besides upholding the country’s development and production.
For this reason, the present government has attached highest priority to the sector and has been implementing massive and effective projects.
By 2019, all the households in Bagha and Charghat Upazilas will get power supply. The educational institutions having no power supply will also get electricity connection. Besides, there will no more non-concrete road in the two upazilas.
Shahriar Alam reiterated that the previous massive power debacle and load-shedding has been reduced to a greater extent. At present, people of the country don’t experience erratic power supply. The government has been implementing prompt, short, medium and long- term planning which has helped the power sector attain unprecedented success.
He said the present government has increased power generation to 14,000 megawatts from the previous 3,200 megawatts.
He also said power is very important for a balance and equitable development of the nation. So, the government has been working relentlessly in this regard. It has attached highest priority to the sector and has been implementing massive and effective projects.
With local Awami League leader Fazlur Rahman in the chair, REB General Manager Nitai Kumar Sarker, Assistant Manager Mazharul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akhtar and Awami League leader Ashraful Islam also spoke on the occasion.
