2,834 persons to be dropped from FF’s list

After scrutinizing the freedom fighters’ certificates twice in January and February of this year, the Jamuka recommended to drop the names of 2,834 persons from the freedom fighters’ list.
The National Freedom Fighter Council director general (additional secretary) Md. Zahurul Islam Rhohel disclosed it to journalists on Sunday.
He said the Jamuka has received the recommendation for inclusion of the names of 16,691 persons as ‘valiant freedom fighters’ in the list, while it has received the recommendation of dropping the names of 2,834 ‘freedom fighters.’
“We have not received any report about others yet,” he said.
The director general said scrutiny of genuine freedom fighters at 376 upazilas of the country has already completed, while scrutiny at the rest 114 upazila are yet to be completed.
Earlier, the National Freedom Fighter Council listed the names of 39,245 persons as ‘valiant freedom fighters’ in the civilian gazette between 2002 and 2013. But, the Jamuka decided to scrutinize the names after questions were raised about their freedom fighter certificates.
Of the total of 39,245 freedom fighters, 1,631 are belonged to different forces.
Sources said that the Jamuka has received the recommendation to drop the names of 261 persons in Gopalganj, 245 persons in Dhaka, 141 in Meherpur, 128 in Rajshahi, 125 in Barguna, 104 in Faridpur, 142 in Chandpur, 58 in Narsingdi, 50 in Brahmanbaria, 48 in Madaripur, 34 in Cumilla, and 21 in Manikganj districts until Saturday (March 13).
However, no names of freedom fighters from Rangamati and Noakhali districts have been excluded from the freedom fighters’ list.
