28.71 lakh workers get jobs abroad, JS told

Bangladesh sent 28.71 lakh workers abroad with overseas employment and received $ 76.82 billion as remittance from 2009 to December 2014.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain told this in the House on Tuesday while replying to question from treasury bench member Monowara Begum.
He said Bangladesh sent over 91 lakh workers to 160 countries, adding, “The country received 61.90 billion US dollars during the last five years, while the remittance was only 18.36 billion US dollars during the regime of the BNP-led four-party alliance.” Replying to another question from the opposition bench member Begum Salma Islam, the minister said the government has undertaken a project to set up 439 new vocational training centres at upazila level across the country. He also said that the present government would set up vocational training centres in all districts to increase the training capacity to 1.50 lakh annually.
The minister said the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) is providing skill development training programme to the unemployed youths.
