Book festival for free distribution of primary and secondary school level text books started in 41 upazilas under 6 districts of Barisal division from Friday January 1, 2016 morning under a festive mood.
Atotal of 43, 31,721 (72.77 percent) out of demanded 59, 52,099 copies books for primary level students reached to the concerned institutions till Thursday, said divisional office of primary education.
However, rest of 16,20,378 (27.23 percent) copies of books on the way, but delayed due to communication problem, municipal election and would be reached within next week, said Mahbub E Elahi, deputy director of primary education Barisal divisional office, assured.
Office of the Deputy Director Primary Education , Barisal sources added that out of demanded 16,50,882 books 4,58,913 copies (27.8 percent) yet not reached for primary schools of 10 upazilas under Barisal district, out of demanded 6,63,750 books 3,18794 copies (48.43 percent) not reached for primary schools of 7 upazilas under Pirojpur district, out of demanded 3,85,161 books 1,64,980 copies (42.84 percent) not reached for primary schools of 4 upazilas under Jhalakathi district, out of demanded 6,30,735 books 1,46,552 copies (23.24 percent) not reached for primary schools of 5 upazilas under Barguna district, out of demanded 10,70,791 books 2,75, 948 copies (25.77 percent) not reached for primary schools of 8 upazilas under Patuakhali district, out of demanded 15,50,580 books 2,55,186 copies (16.46 percent) not reached for primary schools of 7 upazilas under Bhola district, not reached till December 31.
Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, divisional deputy director, secondary and higher secondary education directorate office of Barisal, said 38 school and college type institutions, 2,786 secondary schools and madrasas with 7,19,587 students in Barisal division.
Among them 4,88, 930 were school students and 2, 14,432 were madrasa students and among them secondary level students will get free text books.
The DSHSE office of Barisal division claimed that already 90 percent books reached to the respective institutions for free distribution and rest will reach within a week.
