A total of 262 publishers will get stall allocation at the country’s month-long mega book fair – “Amar Ekushey Boi Mela” marking the International Mother Language Day on February 21.
“This year, we have to build a portion of stalls on the road in front of the Bangla Academy, as construction is going on inside the boundary of the Academy,” Bangla Academy Director General Shamsuzzaman Khan told BSS yesterday. The academy has selected 262 publishers, under creative publishers’ society and sellers’ society, for stall allotment against 320 applications. Of the 262 stalls, 131 will be allocated under unit 1, 83 under unit 2 and 48 under unit 3.
The Bangla Academy chief said they are planning to place unit 2 and 3 on the road in front of the academy and unit 1 inside the academy. Besides, stalls of the government organizations, banks, insurances, media and little magazine will be built inside the academy premises.
“There are possibilities to see stalls of renowned publishers on the road as they are keen to get their stall outside,” Khan said. The academy will hang the list of stall location on January 25.
Khan said Bangla Academy is yet to take any sponsor as they are planning to organize the fair using their own fund.
