255 rare birds recovered

Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) of the Bangladesh Forest Department recovered 255 different species from bird traders in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka on Saturday.
A unit of WCCU conducted a raid in the house of Zahir Ali Doyal, a resident of Buribhadra, Ashulia, and rescued 180 doves, 71 munias, three moynas, and one swamphen.
Inspector Ashim Mallick told the media that the team went into action getting information that a consignment of 150 birds, poached from Bogra, had been brought in the house.
It is reported that Zahir Ali Doyal has been trading indigeneous birds for long. For this, he has formed a team and collect birds from different areas.
No one, however, was arrested in this connection.
According to Wildlife Conservation Act 2012, poaching indigenous birds is a punishable offence.
