Around 2,500 flood-affected families received relief in various villages under Mohanpur and Bagmara Upazilas of the district on Sunday.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam distributed the relief materials among the marooned families. He distributed 30 tonnes of rice and Taka 15 lakh in cash.
Engineer Enamul Haque, MP, Ayen Uddin, MP, Deputy Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif and other officials and public representatives concerned were present during the relief distribution.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahriar Alam expressed his commitment that flood rehabilitation project will be adopted in the affected upazilas.
He also assured that post-flood agriculture rehabilitation programme will be undertaken so that the affected farmers can recoup the losses.
“We have started distributing rice and all of the affected people will get the relief. We will arrange shelter for the marooned people to lessen their sufferings,” he assured.
He told the people that the officials of Water Development Board have been asked to take necessary steps before next monsoon for permanent solution to the flood in the areas.
