Department of Environment has fined 25 institutions with Tk 90 lakh for lack of environmental clearance, air pollution, flooding of rivers and setting up of establishments in prohibited areas.The fine was imposed on Tuesday after a hearing at the Department of Environment, Chittagong. Mofidul Alam, director of the Chittagong region of the environment department, said that the fined companies have been operating with various irregularities. An on-the-spot investigation found the allegations against them are true. Therefore, under section 8 and 12 of the Environmental Protection Act 1995 (amended 2010), 25 companies were fined 90 lakh 16 thousand 600 taka.
With that is warned for the future, DOE sources said.
