24 Jashore orgs to boycott Baishakhi celebration

Twenty cultural organisation in Jashore, at a meeting, have decided to boycott all forms of cultural programmes on 1st Baishakh protesting at the government’s decision to cut Bangla New Year celebration programmes.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the organisations held at the office Udichi Shilpi Goshthi on Thursday night. DM Shahiduzzaman, President of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote and also President of Udichi Shilpi Goshti, Jashore chaired the meeting, Shahid confirmed.
Shahid said journalists that cultural organisation in Jashore have been celebrating Paila Baishakh for around three decades. People of all walks of life take part the programmes. But the government has shortened the programmes. ‘We are angry with this’ he added.
The organisations will hand over memorandum to the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police on Sunday. A human chain will also be formed at Garikhana Road in protest on the day.
 The meeting was attended among others by Mahmud Hasan Bulu, Sukumar Das,Sawar Alam Dulu, Farazi Ahmed Seed Bulbul, Basudev Biswas, Sanjo Charawarty and others.
