A mobile court here on Wednesday sentenced 24 fishermen to two years’ imprisonment for catching hilsa from the Meghna River in Haimchar upazila, defying the government ban. Members of Coast Guard and river police conducted a drive in the river and arrested the 24 fishermen along with 1 lakh square meters of current nets while catching hilsa in the afternoon, Hasanuzzaman, a sub-inspector at Haimchar Nilkamal Police camp.
