Staff Reporter :The 23 temporary cattle markets, approved by the two city corporations of Dhaka and the Dhaka district’s deputy commissioner, are going to begin from today (Saturday) in the capital city. Police were deployed in the cattle markets from yesterday (Friday). Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muntasirul Islam said that cows would be allowed inthose temporary cattle markets from Saturday. He also said that no cattle market would be allowed out of the approved areas. The markets must be restricted to the leased areas. The police will take action against any market set up at places not approved by the authorities, he added. This year, Dhaka North City Corporation cleared seven cattle markets under its jurisdiction. On the other hand, the Dhaka South City Corporation has approved 10 markets at different places. Dhaka district deputy commissioner has also approved six cattle markets.Muntasirul Islam also informed that seven magistrates would run mobile courts at the cattle markets this year. The mobile courts will start working on Monday at the cattle markets of Dhaka and its adjacent areas.Apart from the markets’ environmental conditions and management, the courts’ executive magistrates will also monitor law and order and security measures.Muntasirul Islam said that police were on alert to ensure the security of both buyers and sellers and prevent any disorder. “Every market will have CCTV cameras, watch towers and machines to identify fake currencies,” he added.Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Sayedul Haque on Thursday said that there would be no cattle crisis during the Eid, as farmers were ready with 4 million cows and 6.9 million goats for the sacrifice. He also said that veterinary teams would check cattle in 494 markets across the country to ensure safe meat.The government has designated 493 spots in the capital for animal slaughter and requested citizens to use them during the Eid. Of them, 285 are in the Dhaka South City Corporation and 208 in Dhaka North.
