Road crashes: 227 spots on highways found vulnerable

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said over 227 spots on highways in the country have been identified as vulnerable for road accidents
Replying to a question from treasury bench member Fazilatunnesa Bappy, he said in association with the Accident Research Institute of BUET, the government has identified the 209 spots.
“Later, the officials of Roads and Highways department identified 18 more spots vulnerable for road accidents,” Quader told the parliament.
He said the Roads and Highways department has already taken steps for 58 spots of Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Mymensingh, Joydevpur-Candra-Tangail-Elenga highways.
The number of crashes on highways has skyrocketed as every hour lives are being lost in a road accident, while many other suffer critical injuries.
According to AIR, some dangerous turns and desperate driving on the highways have become virtual death traps as deadly road accidents continue to claim lives almost everyday.
