22 seek AL nomination in Mymensingh-3 by-polls

With the announcement of the schedule for Mymensingh-3(Gouripur) by-election on July 18, there is widespread discussion among the people of Gouripur upazila who are to vie for the parliamentary seat.
The names of 22 persons of the ruling Awami League (AL) have come up, who may seek party nomination.
Twenty two AL aspirants who bought nomination papers on Wednesday are trying to get the party nomination. They are : former district AL General Secretary freedom fighter Nazim Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary of Doctors’ Association Dr. M.A. Aziz; central leader Krishibid Dr. Shameul Alam Liton, Mayor Syed Rafiqul Islam, former upazila chairman Ali Ahmed Khan Salvee, former district Chhatra League General Secretary Sharif Hasan Anu; central leader Murshedujjaman Selim; Adv Muzzamel Huque of Supreme Court ; Principal A.K.M Abdur Rafique; District AL leader GM Babul (VP Babul), former upazila AL president FF Adv. Abul Kalam Azad; former mayor Shafiqul Islam Hobby, assist general secretary of Bangabandhu Foundation Naznin Alam; upazila vice chairman Rabeya Islam Doly; former upazila AL general secretary Farid Uddin Ahmed; upazila AL General Secretary Bidhu Bhushan Das, Upazila Vice Chairman Md Sannaul Huque, AL leader M A Mamun; AL leader Abu Kawsar Chowdhury Ronty; actress Jyotika Jyoti and two others.
In the meantime, the aspiring candidates are drawing the attention and blessings of the voters by putting up bill boards and colour posters with photos at various intersection and public places of the town. AL insiders said the prospective candidates already started to lobby with the party high command and now they are staying in Dhaka till 19 June
 The Mymensingh-3 constituency (Gouripur) fell vacant after AL lawmaker, Freedom Fighter Alhaj Capt (Retd) Mujibur Rahman Fakir, Former State Minister for Heath and Family Welfare died on 2 May 2016.
AL party candidate will be selected by the parliamentary board comprised of the top-brass party leaders. 22 aspirant candidates are called for an interview by the parliamentary board within 19 June. Sources said that the Awami League parliamentary board will interview the nomination seekers on Thursday. It has been triggering tension among the nomination-seekers.
Sources also said some leaders of the area have been trying to come closer to the PM and win her blessings to get “green signal”
Freedom Fighter Nazim Uddin Ahmed said to the New Nation he was confident about winning party nomination as he was the most senior leader of the party.
Jyotika Jyoti, who is an actress, said she was interested to run in this by-election and that she would seek nomination from the party.
 Moreover, the present situation is totally different. A number of prospective candidates have been lobbing intensely to get the party ticket.
