Returning officer of Chattogram after final scrutiny of the nomination papers yesterday declared valid of the nomination paper of incumbent lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim chowdhury and declared void of the nomination paper of Samir Quader Chowdhury, son of Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury. The scrutiny of the nomination papers were held at Deputy commissioner’s conference hall at Court hill on Sunday.
Meanwhile 22 nomination papers of BNP, BNF, LDP and independent candidates from 10 constituencies of Chattogram out of 16 declared cancelled due to bankrupt, and other errors in nomination papers. Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury , brother of war crimes convict Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury submitted nomination papers for Fatikchari and Rangunia constituency and his nominations declared void due to bankrupt.
Out of 22, 6 candidates belong to BNP-led alliance. Deputy commissioner and Returning office Md. Elias Hossain said these nominations have been cancelled due to reasons including bankrupt, conviction in case and other related offenses etc.
He also told that these void candidates will have right to appeal before the Election Commissioner Secretary against cancellation of NP within 3 days, sources said.
