At least 22 Indian citizens were detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for entering Bangladesh illegally at Nischintapur and Mogdaspur areas of Maheshpur upazila, Jhenaidah early Saturday.
Palianpur BOP patrol team of BGB detained 16 people from Nischintapur while another BGB team of Jululi BOP detained five more people from Mogdaspur village around 5:00am, said a press release from Maheshpur BGB 58.
The detained, including seven women, six children and a broker, claimed they are Bangladeshi citizens.
The detainees said they entered India at different times in search of jobs, treatment and buying cattle. BGB sources said they were handed over to Jhenaidah police station and a case would be filed against them.
Last two weeks BGB detained 214 Indian citizens reaching 244.
