Police here early Sunday arrested at least 22 leaders and activists of BNP including a municipality mayor in connection with two cases filed for vandalizing a vehicles of law enforcers and attacking them on Friday night.
Police filed the cases with Sonargaon and Siddhirganj Police Stations accusing at least 250 people.
In separate drives police arrested 22 people including municipality mayor of Kanchan in Rupganj, Abul Basar Badsha, 10 other BNP leaders of Sonargaon, and BNP president of Nasik unit Bablu Prodhan.
Police said on Friday night the BNP men attacked police and vandalised their patrolling car at Tipurdi area of Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and Dhandir bazar area of Noagaon union.
