Betel leaves on 22 bighas of land were gutted in a devastating fire at Raigram village under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenidah on Monday afternoon.
The affected owners claimed that the loss caused by the fire is primarily estimated at Tk 12 lakh.
Locals said, the victims of torched betel leaf garden are : Naran Samaddar, 35 decimals, Nishid Das 50 decimals, Nitai Das, 66 decimals, Madai Das 25 decimals, Balaram Das, 20 decimals, Uttam Das 15 decimals, Sadan das 15 decimals, Nitai Das, 10 decimals including 22 bigahs of 21 farmers of Raigram village. The name of the rest farmers could not be known immediately.
Kaliganj fire fighting Station Officer (SO) Samsul Islam also said that the fire might be originated by any unscrupulous man.
