Police detained 22 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir for assaulting Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi , an Awami Laegue MP, at Lohagorha Upazila in Chittagong.
They were held during raids of various areas in the early hours of Saturday, Lohagorha Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Md Shahjahan said.An attempt to murder case is being processed, he said. Nezamuddin on Friday night attended a Siratunnabi Mahfil, an Islamic event, at Chunti Union Parishad’s Shah Manjil. Local Jamaat-Shibir men hurled shoes and stones at the MP as he began speaking as chief guest at the ceremony.
