21 shops gutted in Sharankhola

As many as 21 shops were completely gutted when a devastating fire broke out in Rajapur village market under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district recently, according to a report received here. The loss of fire is Tk 3 crores.
It is learnt from Humayun Kabir Talukdar, Director of Rajapur Bazar Management Committee that the fire originated from a shop named ‘Riadul Electronics’ of the Bazar just at the time of Fazar prayer spread to its adjacent shops and went out of control within moments. On seeing the flame of fire the she shop-keepers and the locals tried their best to extinguish the fire, but in vain. On information 2 fire service units- one from Sharankhola Upazila headquarters and another from Morrelganj Upazila headquarters rushed to the spot and after a long fighting for more than 2 hours the firemen brought the fire under control. But in spite of that as many as 21 big and small shops including stationary, grocery, cloth, electronic goods, garments, medical pharmacies etc. with their all belongings were completely burnt to ashes.
Adv. Amirul Alam Milon, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4, Raihan Uddin Shanto, Upazila Parishad Chairman of Sharankhola, Mainul Islam Tipu, UP chairman of Dhansagar, Asduzzaman Milon, General Secretary of Sharankhola Upazial Awami League and Government Officials already visited the gutted Bazar.
Md. Shamsur Rahman, Upazila Fire Service Station officer of Sharankhola told, it is guessed that the fire was originated from an electricity short circuit and the loss of fire is about Tk. 99 lakh. But Hujayun Kabir Talukdar, Director of Rajapur Market Management Committee, told the loss of fire is more than Tk 3 cr according to a primary assessment.
