The speakers at the rallies held in the port city Chittagong demanded punishment to the criminals who attacked on the grand rally of Awami League on August 21 in 2004.
The leaders of political parties and social organisations alleged that the leaders of opposition BNP might be involved with the attack on Sheikh Hasina and other Awami League leaders. They attacked in planned way to destroy the Awami League and make the party without leadership, they alleged.
The political parties including Awami League and its sister concerns, CPB, cultural organizations observed the bloody 21 August with demand of punishment to criminals who were involved with the attack.
 A rally of Chittagong South District Awami League held at Anderkillah in the city on Monday afternoon.
 Chittagong South District Awami League President Moslem Uddin Ahamod presided over the rally.
 Vice-chancellor of Premier University Prof Dr Anupam sen addressed the rally as chief guest. Among others, Vice-President Nazrul Islam MP, Wasika Ayesha Khan MP, Motaherul Islam, Abul Kalam Chowdhury, Mohammad Idris, Advocate Jahir Uddin, Khorshed Alam, Golam Faruk Dolar, Nurul Absar Chowdhury, Bijoy Kumar Barua, Nasir Ahamod, Mohammed Musa, A M M Tipu Sultan Chowdhury, Engineer Abul Kashem, Partha Sharoti Chowdhury, Moazzem Hossain Badal, Papri Sultana, Krishna Das, Shanchita Barua, Tamanna Sultana, Ferdous Jannat, Jahanara Siddiqi, Shafiul Azam Shefu, Shahidul Islam addressed the rally.
Awami League Chittagong North District committee held rally at Doust Building premises. The rally was chaired by the president of Awami League Chittagong North District committee Nurul Alam Chowdhury. Among others, General Secretary of the organization M A Salam, Vice-president Fazle Karim Chowdhury MP, Abul Kalam Azad, Devgashish Palit, Ehsanul Hyder Babul, Bederaul Alam Bedar, Jashim Uddin Shah, Jafor Ahmed, Mohammad Selim Uddin, Didarul Alam Babul, Sayeda Rifat Akhter, Bashonti Palit, S M Rashedul Alam addressed the rally.
 The Mohila Awami League Chittagong North District observed the candling program at Central Shahid Minar. At that time, a rally held at the Shahid Minar premises. Another rally held at Zila Porishadm Hall in the city in the afternoon. City Awami League Vice -president Mahatab Uddin Chowdhury presided over the rally.
Among others, General Secretary and Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation A J M Nasir Uddin, Vice-president Naim Uddin Chowdhury, Advocate Sunil Kumar Sarkar, Jahirul Alam Dovash, M A Rashid, Hasan Mahmud Hasni, Hasan Mahmud Shamsher, Advocate Ifthekhar Saimul Chowdhury, Johor Lal Hajari, Ahamedur Rahman Siddiqi, Jobaida Nargis Khan, Chandan Dhar, Moshiur Rahman, Hazi Jahur Ahamod, Abul Mansur, Sunil Dhar and other leaders addressed the rally.
Besides, ruling Awami League hoisted black flags at the offices of Chittagong North, South and City committees. Milad Mahfil, Iftar Party and Quran Khani were arranged by the Awami League and its sister organizations on August 21.
 CPB held a rally at its office at Hajari Lane in the city. Besides, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Jubu League and other sister organizations of Awami League held rallies in observance of the day.
