The mayor came up with the announcement at a press conference held at Hotel Sonargaon in the city on Wednesday.
Khokon also revealed the pans and programmes of DNCC for cleaning the capital Dhaka which already labelled as the world’s second least liveable city.
“The year of 2016 will be the ‘year of cleanliness,” said Khokon adding that the programme in this regard will be observed with the slogan ‘Dhaka Clean by 2016’.
He said, under the programme the city dwellers will wear white shirt in a day of the week while the slogan of the day will be ‘White Shirt Day’.
“At least 57 places will be designated for secondary waste transfer stations to fulfill the target of cleaning the city. Of these, we could manage at least 15 stations within the city,” Khokon said.
“We will set up 50 public toilets in the south city areas by 2017,” he said adding “all billboards will be removed”.
In a similar programme, mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq has also set a target to have littering-free capital by March 2016 with ‘effective measures’.
“We will launch campaign raise awareness among common people so that they get out from the habit of littering,” Khokon said, adding “Adequate dustbins will be put in place to collect secondary wastes that people used to leave here and there.”
He further said that they will educate people about the harmful effects of littering and persuade them to change their habit in a bid to keep the city clean.
“We’re now working out plans and ways to face littering problem and make the city a clean one. You’ll see the results in 2016,” he added.
The major also said that they are going to launch an anti-littering drive soon to make people aware about littering hazards and encourage them to change their habit of making public places and streets dirty.
