Members of Coast Guard seized at least 2000 Kg (more than 50 mounds) Jatka (hilsa fries less than ten inches in length) and its carrier trawler from Kalabadar River under Mehendiganj Upazila of the district on early Friday.
Dr. Bimal Chandra Das, district fisheries officer (Hilsa), Barishal, confirmed the report. Becoming aware about the drive of south zonal unit of Coast Guard, the fishermen boarded on the fishing trawler managed to flee from the scene and the trawler was seized by Coast Guard, he added.
Seized hilsa distributed different between different madrasa and orphanages of the city on Friday noon by the Coast Guard contingent at DC ghat at west embankment of Kirtonkhola River, the fishery official said.
