The 107th session of the historical Jabbarer Bolikhela( Jabbar’s wrestling festival) and Boishaki Fair will begin from today(Sunday) at Laldighi square in the heart of the port city .
The jurisdiction of the Boishaki Mela and Bolikhela comprising areas from Bangladesh Bank square to city corporation office premises and Jail road to shahid minar . The main attraction of the Boiskhaki fair is Bolikhela which supposed to he held on April 25(Monday).
The wrestling competition will be held from 3 pm at laldighi maidan. Mobile phone operator Grameen Phone patronizing the Bolikhela this year, a sources said. The members of the Boishaki Mela committee and GP officials declared the schedule of the Bolikhela and Baishaki fair at a press meet held at press club lounge yesterday . President of the Boishaki Mela committee Jaharlal Hazari, general secretary Showkat Anowar Badal, GP Chittagong Crcle head M. Shaon Azad and Head of External Communications Syed Talat Kamal answered to the questions of the journalists at the press meet. Sources said about 150 wrestlers from different parts of the country enrolled their names in wrestling contest till writing this report. They hoped more than 200 wrestlers are expected to contest in the competition.
Head of Chittagong circle of GP Shaon Azad said GP trying to upheld the century old traditional wrestling competition of the country with to ensure to impart training to the local wrestlers and nursing . Police commissioner of Chittagong Md. Iqbal Bahar will inaugurate the Bolikhela while the city mayor AJM Nasiruddin will grace it as chief guest. Award for champion wrestler fixed Tk.20 thousand this year, sources said.
The historical bolikhela began in 1909 duly introduced by a social personality Abdul Jabbar. The popularity of Bolikhela has gradually increased across Chittagong including Boishaki Mela at the same venue.
The stalls of different kinds of house wares like bamboo and cane made, chital patti, earthen wares , sweetmeats of different zones of the country, furniture items , brooms, broomsticks, blacksmith’s products etc. installed in the fair . CMP has permitted to hold the fair for 3 days only , sources said.
