200 Myanmar Buddhists take shelter in remote Bandarban village

Around two hundred Buddhists of Myanmar’s Chin state took shelter in remote village of Bandarban on February 4 as the fighting between Myanmar Army and Arakan Army intensified.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Ruma upazila Md Shamsul Alam said that the displaced people of around 40 Myanmar families took shelter in remote Cheih Kaying para under Remakree Prangsha union of Ruma upazila on February 4.
They had been kept in temporary tents in Chai Kayang para area,” the UNO said quoting Jira Bawm, local union parishad chairman.
Jira Bawm, Chairman of Remakri Prangsha union said, “The displaced villagers arrived at Chai Kayang para on Monday evening” adding “Members of law enforcement agencies do not allow the villagers to move to upazilla headquarters”.
Myanmar Army and the Arakan Army, the two sides have been engaged in clashes in Buthidaung and Rathedaung townships nearing the Myanmar-Bangladesh border since November 30.
Brigadier General Ainul Morshed Khan Pathan, Regional Commander of Cox’s Bazar BGB said, “We have sent two patrol teams there after hearing that Myanmar people entered into the Bangladesh territory.”
