At least 20 shops were gutted as a fire broke out at Phulbari upazla Sadar Bazar this morning.
Fire brigade sources told BSS that the fire originated from a sweet shop and soon engulfed the adjacent shops.
Being informed, fire fighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after 2 hours frantic effort.
No actual financial losses were so far known although shop owners
claimed that the loss may surpass Taka 50 lakh.
He said people with their family members are coming for shopping this year even at midnight due to improvement of law and order situation. The volume of sale is much higher this year, he added.
M A Kafi, secretary of Markets owners association of Khulna, said local products particularly Salwar-kameez sets for girls, shoes, sharees with embroidery and stone work, panjabees, shirts and trousers produced by different local fashion houses are attracting the customers.
