About 20 people died in road crashes in eight districts on Friday.
In Manikganj at least seven people, including six members of a family, were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and an auto-rickshaw in Mulkandi area under Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Horekrishna Baddhokar, 55, his son Gobinda Baddhokar, 28, his wife, Babita Baddhokar, 25, their daughter Radhe Baddhokar, 4, aunt Khushi Baddhokar, cousin Ram Proshad Baddhokar and baby taxi driver Jamal Sheikh, 30.
Rezaul Karim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station, said the accident took place on the Ghior-Daulatpur Road at around 2.30 pm. Of the seven victims, six died on the spot while one breathed his last on the way to a hospital, he said.
In Tangail at least six people were killed and five others injured when a truck hit a bus in Tangail’s Mirzapur upazila Friday morning.
The accident took place on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Kurni area around 7am, said Mozaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gorai Highway Police Station.
The Dhaka bound bus of Seba Classic Paribahan coming from Rangpur broke down when it reached Kurni, said the OC.
As the bus was parked on one side of the highway for repair work, a Dhaka-bound vegetable-laden truck hit it from behind, leaving four passengers of the bus dead on the spot, the OC added.
Two more passengers died after being taken to the Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur.
Five passengers were admitted to the hospital with severe injuries, he also said.
In capital two people including a college student and a child died in separate road accidents in Motijheel and Jatrabari area on Friday.
In Jatrabari, a college student was killed and another was injured when a truck hit their motorcycle.
The dead was identified as Iftekhar Ifty (18), a second-year HSC student of Rajarbagh Police Line School and College.
His friend Ananta Barua, a student of Notre Dame College, was receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for his wounds in both legs and hands at the time of filing this report.
The accident took place when the two friends went outside with a motorcycle in the morning. Ifty, a novice, was piloting the bike when it collided head-on with a truck around 10:00am, leaving two injured, said Mazharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari Police Station.
The two were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Ifty dead around 11:00am, the OC said, adding that police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee.
In Motijheel, a child was killed and four others were injured in a collision between a bus and an auto-rickshaw in front of Jiban Bima Corporations at 9 pm on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nusaiba Akter (10).
Motijheel Thana Inspector (Investigation) Monir Hossain Mollah said, this family was living in Keranigonj. On Friday morning they were travelling in the Motijheel area by a baby taxi. After reaching in front of Jiban Bima Corporation a bus and the baby taxi collided. Later after rescuing the passenger and driver they were sent to Dhaka Medical Hospital where a doctor declared Nusaiba as dead.
In Bhola, a man was killed as tractor hit a motorcycle in Bhola’s Daulatkhan upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Nijam Uddin Miron, 45, a resident of Kanainagar village in the upazila.
Locals said a tractor hit motorcycle in Banglabazar area, leaving its rider dead on the spot.
Banglabazar outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Golam Mostafa confirmed the matter.
In Magura, a woman died and three of her family members sustained injuries when a vegetables-laden lorry turned turtle on Dhaka-Magura Highway’s Ramnagar Thakurbari area on Friday noon.
The deceased was Shwarna Biswas, 25, while the injured are her family members Sathi Biswas, 35, Setu Biswas, 12, and Aparna Biswas, Ramnagar highway police Officer-in-Charge Shahjalal Babul said.
The accident occurred when the lorry’s driver lost control on the steering and fell on the four victims standing near the road.
Shwarna died on the spot, said the OC adding that the injured were undergoing treatment at Magura 250-bed Hospital.  
All the victims are from Thai Para village in Shalikha upazila.
In Jashore, a motor biker died under a train in the Khorki area on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman (47), son of late Azizur Rahman from Jeshore Monirum pur Upazila.
The witnesses said, when Abdur Rahman was crossing an unauthorized rail gate at Khorki a train from Khulna named ‘Rocket’ hit him.
Locals rescued injured Abdur Rahman and sent to Jashore Medical College Hospital.
Sorav Kumar Das, a doctor of Jashore Medical College Hospital said, Abdur Rahman got serious injury in his legs, hands and head. Reaching hospital he breathed his last.
In Natore, an old man named Md Alal Fakir (65) had died at Haybatpur area when a bus hit him during road crossing on the Natore-Banpara highway.
Jalmolia Highway Police outpost’s inspector Md Rezwanul Islam said, after Fazr prayer at 6 am he was going to his home. A bus struck him at Haybatpur and he got serious injury. After knowing the incident, police immediately ran and rescued and sent to Natore Hospital. But Fakir died at 9 am.
In Narsingdi, a man named Yusuf Ali (60) died at Shibpur Jamtala on Friday in a pickup van, Nasimon and baby taxi head-on clashed.
Shivpur Thana Sub-Inspector Murad Hossain said, after getting information police ran to spot and rescued the dead body and sent to Itakhala Highway outpost and seized the baby taxi, Pickup van and Nasimon.
