20 hurt as AL activists attack BNP rally in Barisal

Atleast twenty activists of BNP and its front organizations including five females were injured in an attack by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League activists at Barisal City on Saturday noon.
Mojibor Rahman Sarwar, BNP City secretary, said BNP-led 18-party alliance organised a gathering on occasion of `Democracy Killing Day’ in front Party office on Saturday morning.
The ruling party cadres at first removed our loud speakers installed outside the BNP office and after half an hour of that they attacked the office in presence of Police.
`When we started our discussion meeting in our office, a group of AL, BCL, JL men with lethal weapons attacked us. Even when our leaders and activists returning home, the AL cadres again attacked them.
They threw bottle, bricks on us and our office and beat our activists and leaders.
At least 20 activists and leaders were injured by the attackers in presence of police.
Among the injured BNP district leader Ebaidul Huq Chan, BCC Panel mayor and BNP leader Taslima Sharif Poli, BCC councilor Selina Pervin, Mitu, Zoynob BiBi, Papia , Marina Munni, received treatment from clinic.
Injured ward BNP leader Azad Shikdar, admitted Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Abdur Razzak, BCL district secretary denying their involvement with the attack claimed it may be happened due to inner conflict of local BNP.
Awlad Hossain, officer in charge of Barisal Kotwali Police Station, said some people tried to ransack BNP office, but police saved that and police ensured security for the safe return of the BNP leaders and activists to home.
To maintain law and order police immediately deployed surrounding the area and brought the situation under control, he added.
