Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) picked up 20 talented swimmers from Gazipur for the next round after a daylong competition at Rajdighi, Gazipur on Saturday.
A total of 20 swimmers, including six girls, got Yes card for the next round of the swimming talent hunt programme titled “Bangladesh in Search of Best Swimmers” jointly organised by BSF and Navy.
A total of 131 contenders, of them 11 girls, contested in the event.
Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman of Youth and Sports Ministry Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, was present in the talent hunt event as the Chief Guest.
However, aiming to bring out talent swimmers from country’s 489 upazilas BSF and Navy are jointly organising around the six-month long programme started from May 19, for the first time of its kind in Bangladesh.
Participants will compete in the three phase selection programme split in four age groups– (11-12), (13-15), (15-17) and (18 plus). In the first phase, 48 competitors from each upazila getting opportunity to contest while 10-20 swimmers will be selected from each upazila to fill the 1000 seats of districts level for the 2nd phase.
A total of 160 swimmers will be picked up for 3rd round from 1000 and finally 60 will be selected to join the long term training programme at BSF.
