20 BNP men injured in Cumilla factional clash

At least 20 leaders and activists of BNP were injured in a clash between two groups over establishing supremacy in Monohorgonj upazila here on Friday afternoon. Locals said there had a conflict between former BNP MP Anawarul Azim and Laksam upazila BNP President Abul Kalam alias Chaity Kalam over establishing supremacy in Cumilla-9 (Laksam-Monohorgonj) constituency for long.
The clash took place as the followers of Anawarul obstructed the followers of Abul Kalam when attending a programme at Kechtoal in the upazila leaving 20 leaders and activists injured.
Later, activists of both the groups vandalised at least 25 vehicles and burnt down five motorcycles.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Monohorgonj Police Station.
