A tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced two people to death in a case filed over the murder a minor girl after gang-rape in the city’s Khalishpur area in 2009.
The condemned convicts are Md Babul Hawladar alias Kala Babul, 38, son of late Abdul Quader, and
Emdad Hossain, 37, son of Sadek Hossain of Bastohara Colony. They were also fined Tk 1 lakh each.
Asha Mia, 22, Md Jahangir Ali, 24, Jahidul Islam, 40, and Nazrul Islam, 35, were acquitted as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
According to the prosecution, Afsana Mimi, 14, daughter of Md Imam Hossain of the Bastohara Colony, went to buy some puffed rice from a nearby shop around 7pm on November 15, 2009 but did not come back home.
Imam filed a general diary (GD) with Khalishpur Police Station on the same night.
Police recovered Mimi’s body from a pond of the colony on November 16.
