Staff Reporter :
Two siblings reportedly committed suicide by hanging themselves with the ceiling fans of their house in frustration in the city’s Uttara in the wee hours of Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Chirosree Zaman Munmun, 18 and Mohammad-bin- Alim, 15, children of journalist couple Alimul Haque and Joyshree Zaman, police said.
Quoting the deceased’s relatives and locals, Uttara West Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said that Munmun and Alim committed suicide in their residence on Garib-e- Newaj Avenue under
Uttara Section-13 between 9:00 pm to 11:30 pm when their mother Joyshree were not at home. She came back to the house around 11:30pm and found that her children had locked themselves into two different rooms in their house. She informed the matter to the police immediately.
A team of police rushed to the spot and recovered the hanging bodies of the siblings from separate rooms following the information around 12:30am, he said.
‘But it is still unclear whether the deaths are a case of suicide or homicide,’ the OC said.
It is primarily suspected that they might have committed suicide being frustrated, as the relationship between their parents was not good, the police official said.
A six-page suicide note written in English has been recovered from their house, the police official said.
“Bodies had been sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy, the police official said. An unnatural death (UD) case had been filel with the police Station in this connection, he said.
A collegue of the deceased’ mother said that Joyshree Zaman is a Sub-Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and father Alimul Haque is a reporter of a Chinese Journal. He said that they might have committed suicide as their father Alimul Haq had been living in China with his second wife for last few years.
