2 `Sarbaharamen` killed in Tangail gunfight

Staff Reporter :Two suspected members of outlawed Sarbahara Party were killed and three others injured in a “gunfight” with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Tangail Sadar upazila early Wednesday.The victims are Baghil Union Parishad member Akbar Hossain, 45, and Manu Miah, 35.The injured Chan Mia, 38, Raihan, 35, and Farid Mia, 34, were admitted to Tangail Medical College and Hospital under police custody, said RAB-12 Company Commander ASP Mahiuddin Faruqui.A RAB official, Sub-Inspector (SI) Manirul Islam, was also injured in the gunfight and admittedto Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition. Later, he has been taken to Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka, the RAB official said.He said, “Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB raided a house of one Shahadat at Moisha village, where the outlawed party members were staying. Sensing the presence of the RAB members, the outlawed men opened fire, forcing the elite force members to fire in defense that triggered a gunfight around 2:45am.”Akbar Hossain and Manu Miah were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot and three other extremists sustained injuries, the RAB official said. However, the other members of their gang managed to flee, he said.The elite force also recovered one foreign-made pistol, one shutter gun, two rounds of bullets and some bullet shells from the scene, the elite force official said.
