2 ‘robbers’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Two alleged robbers were killed in a gunfight with police in Faringahata area of Ramu upazila early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Anwar Hossain, 23, son of Abdul Kalam and Mohammad Khalil, 28, son of Abdus Sobhan-both hailing from Dariardighi area of the upazila.
Police also recovered two guns and four bullets from the scene.
Mohammad Azad Mia, superintendent of police, Cox’s Bazar, said being tipped off that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit a robbery in the area, a team of Ramu police conducted a drive there at around 2:30am.
Sensing the presence of police, the robbers fired gunshots targeting them and police also fired in retaliation, triggering a gunfight which left Anwar dead on the spot and Khalil injured. Later, Khalil also succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to hospital.
