2 rapists jailed for 30 yrs in Ctg

A tribunal here on Tuesday sentenced two people to 30 years’ imprisonment on two counts of offence for violating a girl here after abduction in 2001.
The convicts are Yakub Ali, son of Hossain, and Mamun, son of Abdul Hasib of Dwip Charti village in Satkania upazila. They were sentenced to life imprisonment each on two counts. The sentence will be effective one after another, meaning that the convicts will have to serve two life terms in jail.
The court also fined them Tk 1.5 lakh each. According to the prosecution, Mamun and Yakub asked the girl to open the door of her house on
May 21, 2001. When she opened door, they picked her up forcibly and first took her to Jahed Boarding in the district town where they violated her. Later, they took the girl to another undisclosed place and took turns to rape her.
On May 28 of the year, the victim’s brother filed a case against the duo under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act in this connection.
Police submitted a chargesheet against them on August 3, 2001 as per two sections. On February 5, 2002, a court framed charges against them on two counts.
