Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two alleged smugglers with three touchstone statues from Bhujail village in Nachole upazila of Chapainawabgonj district last night, RAB sources said here this noon.
The arrested persons were identified as Abu Sama, 40, son of late Solaiman Mondal and Abul Kalam, 35, son of late Tamir Uddin.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid in the area around 9.30 pm and arrested the persons and seized statues weighting around 18 kilograms worth about Taka 75 lakh from their possessions.
The sources said the seized statues were supposed to be smuggled out from the country to the nearby country.
A case was recorded with Nachole police station and the arrested persons along with the seized items were handed over to the police, the sources added.
