A 6-year-old boy and his 3-year-old sister succumbed to the severe burns they suffered when their home in Munshiganj caught fire.
They died late on Thursday while being treated at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, reports UNB.
Quoting doctors, Munshiganj Sadar police’s Inspector Rajib Khan said the children’s parents are struggling to survive. Their mother Shanta Begum, 27, is being treated at the same hospital with 55% burns while the father Kawsar Khan, 36, with 60% burns. On the afternoon of Thursday,
a fire broke out on the second floor of a four-storey building on Shah Cement Road in Char Muktarpur. Five people, including the four-member family above, were burnt while sleeping.
Another burnt neighbour Hritika Pal, 4, is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Initially, it was suspected that the fire was caused by cooking gas cylinder explosion, said Inspector Rajib.
The exact cause of the explosion is being investigated, said Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Hasib Sarkar.
