In separate incidents, two minor girls have been raped in Dhaka and Laxmipur districts.
In Dhaka, a five-year-old girl was violated at Beparipara of Savar upazila on Thursday.
According to locals, neighbour Mamun Miah, 20, a mason hailing from Ranisankail upazila of Thakurgaon district, took the girl to his house when her parents went to work
leaving her alone at the house and raped her there.
Upon query after she fell ill, the victim narrated the incident to her parents.
On Friday, locals caught the culprit and informed Savar Model Police Station.
Later, a police team rushed in and arrested Mamun. In Laxmipur, a three-year-old girl was violated in Char Martin area of Kamalnagar upazila on Friday morning.
Victim’s parents said the minor girl’s uncle (husband of paternal aunt) Sayed Ullah lured her away to his house in the morning where he raped her.
Hearing victim’s screams, neighbours rescued the girl and took her to Kamalnagar Upazila Health Complex from where she was shifted to Sadar Hospital as her condition deteriorated. Sayed, however, managed to flee.
Due to excessive bleeding, the girl’s condition is very critical, said Dr Anwar Hossain , Resident Medical Officer of the Sadar Hospital.
Officer-in-charge of Kamalnagar Police Station Md Iqbal Hossain said they were trying to arrest Sayed Ullah.
