A young man and his lover, who was married to another man, allegedly committed suicide at Hazinagar village in Sadar upazila on Monday night, apparently out of shame. The lovebirds hanged themselves from the ceiling of a house with the same scarf after locals found them in a single room and locked them from outside.
The deceased were identified as Delwar Hossain, 27, son of Chan Miah, and Sweety Begum, 20, wife of Saudi expatriate Nazrul Islam of the village.
Police said Sweety developed an extramarital affair
with Delwar in the absence of her husband who resides in Saudi Arabia. On Monday night, Delwar entered Sweety’s house to meet her.
However, locals locked the house from outside after they sensed his presence. Apparently thinking about the repercussion of the incident, Delwar and Sweety decided to end their life and hanged themselves from the ceiling of the house with the same scarf accordingly. On information, police recovered the bodies on Tuesday morning and sent those to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
