2 killed in Jhenidah gun fights

Jhenidah Correspondent :Two cadres of Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) were killed in separate gun fights with police in Kotchandpur and Harinakundo upazilas of the district on Friday night and early Saturday . One of the victims has been identified as Abdur Rashid, 30, son of Younus Ali from Sreerampur village under the upazila. He was an active PBCP cadre of the locality. Another victim has been identified as Hazrat Ali, 35, son of Mahtab Biswas from Bhomradanga village under Harinakundo upazila of the district. He was also an active PBCP cadre.Officer-in-charge (OC) Fazlur Rahman of Kotchandpur police station said that during the small hours of Saturday night around 3-00 am Rashid along with three cohorts were holding a meeting at Chatar village field. On information, police reached the spot and cordoned the area. Sensing the presence of police, the PBCP cadres opened fire targeting the police, who also retaliated in the same way. PBCP cadre Rashid was hit by bullets and rushed to Kotchandpur police station where the on-duty doctors declared him dead. But his other cohorts managed to flee. After the incident, police recovered a pipe gun and three rounds of bullets from the spot. Police sent the body to Jhenidah sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.Officer-in-charge (OC) Ershadul Kabir of Harinakundo police station said, on Friday night at 2-00 am, a team of police of Harinakundo police station was patrolling in the area. When they reached Rishkhali Amtala of the upazila town, some PBCP cadres were found there. On suspicion, they cordoned them, who opened fire into the police, who replied in the same process. While fleeing, Hazrat received bullet injuries and died on the spot. Police recovered a shutter gun, two rounds of bullets and six bombs from the spot. He was also an active PBCP cadre. The body has been sent to Jhenidah sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.
