Two pedestrians were killed on Friday when a bus was driven on to the pavement in the city’s Mirpur area after the driver lost control on the steering.
Two others have been critically injured in the mishap.
The accident took place about 5:30pm in Mirpur Section 11, in front of the Purabi Cinema Hall, Pallabi Police Station OC Ziauzzaman said.
The deceased have been identified as Chan Miah, 35, and Shahnaj Akhter, 45.
Eyewitnesses said that the accident took place at Mirpur Section-11 when the driver lost his control on the steering and the bus hit the footpath. Two persons
including a woman died while several others were injured.
Atiqul Islam, friend of Chan Miah, identified Chan Miah’s body and said that he owned a tea-stall in that area.
Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared Chan Miah dead on arrival. Shahnaj died on the spot.
Mirpur zone’s Assistant Commissioner of Police Kamal Hossain said that bus driver Belal had been injured. He was arrested and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Pallabi Police Station OC Ziauzzaman said that the accident was fatal. The number of death may be increased, he said.
