UNB, Sherpur :
A local activist of the ruling Awami League and an activist of Jatiya Party were killed in a post-polls violence at Dikpara village in sadar upazila on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Faruk Mia, 26, a supporter of winning Awami League-backed candidate Chhanuar Hossain in Sadar upazila parishad election and Iraj Ali, a supporter of JP candidate Illias Uddin.
Locals said, an altercation ensued between supporters of Chhanuar Hossain and his defeated rival Jatiya Party candidate Ilias Uddin over the polls results on Friday morning.
At one sage, a supporter of Ilias Uddin hit Faruk and three others with a sharp weapon, leaving Faruk dead on the spot and the three injured.
The injured were rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital. As the death news spread, local Awami League activists got furious and beat up Iraj Ali, leaving him critically injured at noon. He succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital. Mazharul Karim, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar police station, confirmed the incident.
