2 killed, 40 hurt in Tongi fan factory blast

At least two workers died in explosion at heat chamber of National Fan Factory in Tongi BSCIC area of Gazipur city on Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Saiful Islam, 18, and Shamsul Haque, 20.
At least 40 workers have reportedly received injuries in the accident, said Ashiqur Rahman, Station Officer of Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD).
He said, that the explosion occurred in the heat chamber on the third floor of the three-storey National Fan Factory building around 11:40am.
 “After two hours efforts, the firefighters doused the flame” the fire man said.
Kamal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi East Police Station, said, the dead bodies were recovered from the scene.
At least 40 workers were brought to the Tongi Hospital and two of them died, said Dr Rabeya Binte Reaz.
 “At least 10 victims have been admitted to the hospital and we have referred eight others to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital,” she said, adding the death toll might go up.
Meanwhile, a five-member probe body led by District Magistrate Mashiur Rahman was formed to investigate the causes behind the explosion in the factory, said Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Dr Dewan Md Humayun Kabir.
The investigation team has been asked to submit the report within seven working days, the DC said
On the other hand, the district administration said that Tk 20,000 as compensation would be paid to each of the deceased family.
